How we think about the current situation in Oman

Of course, in the end, everyone must decide for themselves. What we can say is: Our team on the ground has had a completely normal everyday life since the beginning of the conflicts – on the tours and in Muscat, one hasn't noticed any tensions. All guests who have been in the country during this time reported positively and felt comfortable. There’s currently little happening in Oman, everything is normally open, and the country and its people are happy about every visitor – everyday life continues as it has in previous years. The airport has been open the whole time, and our Canvas Club team has also been on-site several times and is happy to share experiences first-hand. For many guests from the UAE, Oman has been a safe haven, and we have also organized many trips to Oman.

In the touristically relevant areas – on the travel routes, in Muscat, and in the south around Salalah – everything ran as usual for our guests, and all trips could be carried out without restrictions. There were two security-related incidents in the country, but neither affected tourist destinations (details below). Our team in Muscat and our German-speaking staff continue to live and work completely normally, both professionally and privately, and our guests have greatly enjoyed the peace in the country.

The Foreign Office lifted the travel warning in June and currently assesses Oman no differently than it did before the beginning of the conflicts. However, we continuously keep an eye on the situation and will inform you immediately should anything change. Anyone who wants to be on the safe side can read the current travel and safety advice directly on the Foreign Office’s website at any time – we recommend this anyway before every trip, regardless of the current situation.

Yes, there were two incidents: one at a military base in Duqm, about 7 hours drive from Muscat, and one at the port of Salalah. Both were military or infrastructure targets, not tourist facilities. The old town of Salalah, the souks, the frankincense trail, and the other excursion destinations in the region were never affected – nor were Muscat and the classic travel routes.

The airport has been and is continuously open, flights are happening as scheduled. Oman Air has flown from Munich and Frankfurt to Oman and back the entire time without a single cancellation.

Yes – like every year, we set up our tents in mid-September, and our Canvas Club team is very much looking forward to the new season and all guests.

The hotels are currently only very lightly booked and therefore regularly offer attractive deals. With our tour guides, whom we have known personally for many years, we can offer a wide range: oases, deserts, and mountains can currently be traveled in all their splendor, and in a country where mass tourism is still relatively low, it is currently even quieter than usual – ideal for enjoying nature, the land, and the people intensively.

Should the situation change at short notice, we will be in direct contact with you, adjust the route if necessary, or even organize an early return in an emergency – that's part of our comprehensive service.

Yes, since there is no travel warning, the trip cancellation and travel health insurance apply fully. We still recommend discussing this with your insurance again, or if you do not yet have travel insurance, we recommend obtaining suitable insurance regardless of the current situation.

No. The border region to Yemen is anyway outside our travel routes, we generally do not go there. Salalah and the south that we travel to are significantly far from the border and were never affected.

Oman has been pursuing a neutral foreign policy for decades and consciously stays out of the conflicts of neighboring countries – this has also been the case during the current conflicts, and one of the reasons why the situation in the country itself has hardly been impacted. We do not want to make a direct comparison to the UAE or Qatar at this point, as this strongly depends on the respective travel route – please feel free to ask us specifically about combination trips.
