I know the hotels, camps, and activities from personal experience: I have already spent a night in the Canvas Club in the desert and therefore advise you from first-hand experience. For me, Oman is primarily the warmth of the people, who immediately make you feel at home – and the diversity of the country: beautiful beaches, mountains, small towns, and villages, desert and wadis. One can experience an incredible amount in a short time.

On my bucket list

Musandam

At the top of my wish list is the northern part of Oman: Musandam. There, I would like to spend a few nights on the Rubba and explore the region from there. The fjord landscape in the north is one side of Oman that I definitely want to experience myself.

Desert expedition

My next trip takes me back to Oman. Although I have been there several times, there is still so much new to discover – and it always draws me back. This time, I am particularly looking forward to the desert expedition, which I finally want to experience myself.

About Nele – How Oman captured my heart

To be honest, I hadn't really thought about Oman for a long time. I came into contact with the country professionally – and already on my first trip, I fell in love with the country and its people.

Two moments of this trip particularly stuck with me. The night in the desert: nothing but endless expanse and absolute silence. There, I really came to myself and enjoyed every second. And then the complete opposite – a hike in Wadi Hawer, action-packed, with several jumps from the rocks into the water. This nature simply impressed me.

It is exactly this contrast that excites me to this day: silence and adventure, desert and water, all in one country and often just an hour's drive apart. Plus, the warmth of the people, who welcome you from the very first moment. Since then, I have returned again and again – and each time I discover something new.

Places that particularly excite me

Wahiba Desert

The nights in the Wahiba Desert are among my most impressive travel experiences ever – I have stayed there in both the Canvas Club Camp and the Silent Dunes Camp. Nothing but sand for miles and miles, the endless expanse – and this silence, which you hardly find anywhere else. I truly found peace there and consciously enjoyed every second. If you would like to experience what it's like to truly switch off, a night in a camp in the middle of the desert is just right.

Wadi Hawer

Wadi Hawer was pure adventure for me: a hike through the gorge, during which we jumped into the water from the rocks time and again. Action-packed, refreshing – and the nature there simply impressed me. Those who want to experience Oman actively will find just the right mix of thrill and nature experience in the wadis.

Jabal Akhdar

At Jabal Akhdar, the gigantic view into the gorges remains particularly memorable to me – you stand at the edge and look into a landscape that you might not expect in Oman at all. And then the Via Ferrata: climbing path feeling in the Omani mountains, a real highlight for all who like it adventurous.

Nizwa

The small winding alleys of the old town in Nizwa have particularly captivated me. I love walking here at twilight and soaking up the magical atmosphere.

The night in the Canvas Club Camp in the middle of the Wahiba Desert is one of my most impressive travel moments. Nothing but endless expanse and absolute silence – here I really found peace and enjoyed every second.

Jabal Akhdar

The gigantic view into the gorges at Jabal Akhdar amazes me every time. And for those who like adventure: The Via Ferrata there is one of my absolute highlights in Oman.
