Oman has never been this beautiful
Why now is the perfect moment for a trip
Why now is the perfect moment for a trip
A personal travel report about tranquility, hospitality, and a unique moment for a trip to Oman
"In the Grand Mosque, we were practically alone. An experience that one probably won't have again. We are infinitely sorry for the country's tourism, but we are glad that we stuck to the trip." – Message from a customer
I sit in the morning at 28 °C in The Chedi Muscat – the hotel where I have always felt most at home. In the Zen garden, I hear the birds and admire how the blues of the Chedi Long Pools flow into the ocean and sky. I am alone – where normally every sunbed is occupied.
Do you know the feeling when you are the first one on the freshly prepared slopes in the morning? You experience exactly that here all day. Nature has covered the access roads to our Canvas Club Glamping Camp again. The traces of civilization are gone. The souks are empty, the oases lonely.
Nature is returning, just like the fish in Venice during the pandemic. But as magical as that is – it breaks my heart.
Travel like a superstar
You land in Muscat and don’t need fast track, yet you are with your luggage at the driver in 20 minutes. You notice it instantly in the present looks that follow you, like one of five guests in business class, seen by all the staff who picks up the small signals to read your wishes from your lips.
The hotel feels as if it has been waiting just for you when you enter the lobby, and every gesture from the staff seems like a little joy they want to create for you.
Then you notice it everywhere. At the tea seller on the street, at the service staff in the restaurant, at the stalls in the souks. These are not the forced smiles of business as usual. There is a different glow in their eyes – as if they were saying to you: "See, it's peaceful here. It's beautiful here. Thank you for being here. Thank you for trusting us."
The glances meet like those of Harley riders on the street or truck drivers who nod – a small, unspoken connection between people who understand something that others do not see.
How our team on site is doing
Our team on site also leads a completely normal life. In the morning to the office, where every request throughout the day is celebrated frantically, and in the evening a game of padel tennis or cricket with many Indian colleagues, on weekends, many even head to the sea or the mountains. Nothing is different from before, and everyone just wants to keep going, keep working, and show our guests Oman – just as proudly and hospitably as they always have.
What our guests say
Everyone who has visited Oman during this time has similar experiences – and many customers have thanked afterward for an experience they associate only with other times. A trip like back then when they traveled countries as pioneers, with that genuine explorer spirit. The tranquility at places like the Grand Mosque, which you often have almost all to yourself on certain days, or in the great wadis where you hear the rush of water because no one else is there – they will never experience it like that again.
Secured, flexible – and without travel warnings
With all the bittersweetness of these moments, we do not recommend anyone to travel on a whim. The situation in Oman is stable – there is currently no travel warning, your travel cancellation and health insurance normally cover you, and all hotels, tour guides, and our team on site continue to operate as usual.
If your situation changes or you decide differently on a gut feeling, we offer very flexible cancellation conditions – completely independent of how the political situation develops. A nice side effect: Prices are currently particularly attractive, and we can draw from the full resources everywhere.
My team and I would be very happy to plan the next Oman adventure with you. We would be happy to advise you extensively on our personal experiences and are – no matter the situation – your reliable partner. If you want to wait a bit longer on the Oman plans, we have many other great travel destinations in our Take Memories family – and many specialists in the team who advise on these countries with the same passion from personal experience.
