The coast of Oman

Oman has a coastline of sandy beaches with a length of 1700 kilometers, rocky cliffs and species of coral reefs. The coast borders the Gulf of Oman, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. It has a subtropical climate with warm winters and hot summers. The humidity is very high at 60 to 80 % and rainfall is limited to only about 100 mm per year.
The coastal region north of the capital city of Muscat is the Batinah Plain. On the cold coastal strip, many gardens are created to grow various fruits and vegetables.
The long east coast between Muscat and Salalah is one of the most beautiful areas of the country. There, you will find only small fishing villages, where the traditional side of Oman can be experienced. The coast is very clean and diverse. In order to protect the biodiversity of the marine world, a protection zone has been established.
In the south, near the city of Salalah, plantations with bananas, papayas and coconut palms are created on the coast. The Dhofar Mountains are close to the sea and are regularly hit by the Kareef, an offshoot of the monsoon wind, which turns the mountain slopes into green oases.
The coast of the countries in the north of the country is characterized by the exclave Musandam with impressive mountains. Cliffs dropping to the water, through the bays and a fjord-like landscape arise. That is why Musandam is nicknamed “Norway of Arabia”.
