Entry Requirements and Visa Regulations

Traveling to Oman comes with clear entry requirements that make it easy for tourists to enter the country. Both general visa requirements and electronic travel authorizations are straightforward and offer flexible options for varying stay durations.

General Visa Requirements

Tourists from over 100 countries, including Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, can enter Oman for a short stay of up to 14 days without a visa, provided they have a valid passport, return ticket, proof of accommodation, and sufficient funds. For longer stays of up to 30 days, an e-visa is required and can be applied for online via the Royal Oman Police. A single-entry 30-day tourist visa (Type 26B) costs around 50 euros, while a multiple-entry visa (Type 36B), priced at about 120 euros, allows for multiple entries over the course of a year.

Passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. Processing time for the e-visa is usually 3–5 business days, with an expedited option available for urgent cases. Special rules apply for cruise passengers, who do not need a visa for short shore visits of up to 48 hours, and for transit travelers who remain in the airport.

Electronic Travel Authorizations

Oman’s e-visa system significantly simplifies the entry process. Required documents include a valid passport (at least six months beyond the travel end date), a digital passport photo, a completed application form, confirmed flight tickets, proof of accommodation, and travel health insurance.

Processing time is generally four business days, with express options available that can issue the visa within 24 to 72 hours. Applications are submitted via the Royal Oman Police website: once documents are uploaded and the visa fee paid, applicants receive a reference number to track the status of their application. Upon approval, the e-visa is emailed directly to the applicant, making entry into Oman smooth and hassle-free.

Special Travel Regulations

Travelers to Oman should familiarize themselves with entry and customs regulations to ensure a smooth arrival. Specific rules regarding the import of personal items, valuables, and souvenirs require attention to avoid any surprises.

Entry and Customs Regulations

Travelers need a passport valid for at least six months beyond their entry date. For short stays of up to 14 days, citizens of many countries do not need a visa, while longer stays or special travel purposes require a visa application in advance. A visa can also be obtained upon arrival at Muscat International Airport, further simplifying the process.

Duty-free import of personal items is allowed up to a total value of 300 Omani Rials (around 780 USD). Additional allowances include up to 400 cigarettes and a maximum of 4 liters of alcoholic beverages per family for non-Muslim travelers. Electronic cigarettes are permitted in quantities of up to two per person. Certain items, however, require caution: weapons, drugs, specific plants and animals, and pornographic material are strictly prohibited and may be confiscated upon entry.

Valuables like cash or luxury goods worth over 6,000 Omani Rials must be declared upon entry, along with jewelry or gemstones that exceed personal use. For a hassle-free customs process, it’s recommended to carry receipts for valuable items and complete the customs declaration accurately. This ensures a relaxed and trouble-free start to an Omani adventure.

There is a quote by Sultan Qaboos, in which he says: 'Uneducated women cannot raise free children, and neglected women can never properly care for others.
