Entry and Visa

If you want to travel to a non-EU country as an EU citizen, you need to inform yourself in advance about your entry and the visa you may need. Oman does not have a separate agreement with Germany or the EU, as is the case in Turkey, for example. In this respect, it is important to get information regarding this before entering the country.

Passport

If you want to enter Oman as an adult, you need a valid passport. According to the Foreign Office, it has recently occurred that persons with a temporary passport have been denied entry. This is the case in many countries around the world. As a general rule, you should make sure that the ID documents are up to date and sufficient, with sufficient lead time before you leave for Oman. The passport must be valid for at least six months upon entry. Children can enter with a normal children’s passport.

Visa for tourists

Europeans who want to enter Oman need a visa. This can be obtained in different ways. You can buy a visa directly in Oman at the airport. With the passport and the receipt which one receives for the purchase of the visa, one then goes through the customs, where one receives the entry stamp. However, these formalities, which often take some time, can also be avoided if you apply for an e-visa beforehand. Citizens of all EU countries can do this with the Royal Oman Police. For this purpose, a digital passport photo and a copy of the passport must be sent in. The e-Visa is paid by credit card. The 10-day visa that existed in the past was abolished in April 2017. There are now two types of visas for tourists: the classic one-time visa with a 30-day right of residence and the possibility to extend the visa by one month and the tourist visa with the possibility of multiple entries over the course of a year. In this case, the respective stay may not exceed a duration of 4 weeks and the passport must be valid for at least one year with the application.

Further and up-to-date information on the visa possibilities in Oman can be found on the website of the Foreign Office.
