Follow the traces of Sinbad on this 12-day trip. Explore the most impressive facets of Oman, from the city to the mountains, through the desert and across the Persian Gulf to lonely beaches. Let this beautiful country work its magic.
Welcome to the capital of the Sultanate. On arrival at the airport in Muscat, you will be greeted by your personal driver. After all of the suitcases are stowed in the car, you will be taken to your hotel and the journey on Sinbad's traces can begin.
oday, you will explore the city with your private guide who will pick you up in the hotel lobby. The day begins with a visit to the Grand Sultan Qaboos Mosque, where there is a lot to admire in its holy halls. Take a look at the gigantic chandelier, which was once the largest in the Arab world. The countless sparkling Swarovski stones of the chandelier reflect the incoming light. After, your guide will take you to the traditional souk where you can stroll along the market stalls and get an insight into the authentic life of the Omanis. Besides the old town, you can also visit the fish market.
In the afternoon, enjoy the sunshine on board of an Omani Dhow and have a look at the promenade, the Corniche of Muscat from the ocean.
This morning, you will follow the perfectly constructed panorama road and continue towards the Omani mountains. Approximately 200 km from Muscat, on the southern edge of the Hadjar Mountains, is the oasis city of Nizwa. Especially in the past, this city played an important role in the history of Oman, since it was once the capital of the country and is still an important commercial centre of the region. Besides the traditional souk, the fortress of Nizwa is also worth a visit. The imposing round tower is the largest tower in Oman. All in all, there is a lot to see in the region, many small sleepy oasis villages hide on the slopes of the Hadjar Mountains.
A breathtaking view over the Omani mountain region and a cool breeze invite you to linger. At an altitude of just under 3000 m, it is a wonderful setting to relax and forget everyday life. The winding paths through the mountains are also ideal for hiking or mountain biking. Depending on your mood, you can plan and enjoy your day in the mountains.
From the Omani highlands, we continue to the desert today. Along the way, stop at one of the most famous oases of Oman, the Wadi Bani Khalid, where you can explore the cave systems or have a refreshing swim in the crystal clear water pools. After, continue your journey into the Wahiba Desert. Upon your arrival, you are already awaited with literally a camel caravan which is going to take you to your private desert camp. At sunset, you will ride the camels through the seemingly endless dune landscape, where you will reach your bespoke camp shortly after. Under the sparkling starry sky you will have dinner at the campfire and listen to desert tales.
After a rich breakfast in the desert, we will drive along the coastal road back to Muscat. From there, the journey continues by plane to Khasab, located in the north of Oman. This is followed by a private transfer to the harbor where you board an Omani wooden sailing ship and take a spectacular tour along Musandam's longest and most spectacular fjord. Calm, turquoise water contrasts with the creamy white limestone cliffs.
The ship will anchor near Telegraph Island. Here you will have the possibility to swim and snorkel or you can just sit back and relax while you enjoy the breathtaking view of the mountains, which rise up to 600m at this point. In the evening an Arabian-Continental buffet is served on the Dhow.
This day is dedicated completely to sailing through the impressive fjords. There are frequent stops in bays where you can snorkel, swim or kayak if you wish.
At noon you leave the Dhow and are brought back to Khasab. From here you will be transferred to your hotel for the last nights of your Oman trip.
At first sight you might think that the Six Senses Zighy Bay is a real Omani village. Located in Musandam, the resort was built with local materials in the style of the original villages of the Sultanate. The special environment underlines the authenticity because the resort is located in the Omani exclave of Musandam, north of the rest of the country. This area is characterized by its impressive landscape consisting of fjords, rugged mountains, and beautiful beaches. Enjoy the remaining days in this idyllic location before you start your journey home.
