The characteristic appearance of the coast Musandams is due to the calcareous sandstone mountains that tower up there. No other region in Oman is as unspoiled, untouched and natural as the mountains of Musandam. Whoever sets off to discover this mountain world will find steep slopes, breathtaking gorges, fantastic small beaches, and overwhelming cliffs. There are several hotels in the mountain regions, which offer an excellent adventure holiday as well as a wide range of offers for families.
If you want to explore the mountains by car, there is a lot to discover on the approximately 70 kilometers long route from Khasab to Ras al Kaimah in the United Arab Emirates. The areas where the mountain road becomes a coastal road are especially beautiful. It leads directly along the flank of a steep coast, which drops steeply down to the sea. From here, one has some unique views to lonely bays and beautiful beaches that nestle closely to the rocky coast and seem to be only accessible by boat.
For those who want to go in search of their own paradise in the mountains of Musandam, a trip from Khasab to the Jebel Harim is recommended. 2087 meters high is the highest mountain in the mountain region in Musandam. But at 1100 meters a real surprise awaits the visitor. About 15 kilometers from the summit of Jebel Harim you arrive on a paradisiacal plateau – the As Sayh Plateau. In the middle of the rugged mountain world of Jebel Harim, the green expanse with date palms and almond trees has a strangely surreal effect. The plateau is mainly populated by goats, which satisfy their hunger here on the lush pastures of the plateau. But at 1600 meters altitude it ends. There begins a military restricted area. But also the view from up here is worth a trip to the mountain region.
